For such a small town, there's certainly always something going on in Waxhaw, North Carolina. The town may be in a country setting, but it's definitely not the Backcountry anymore.
What's Happening Near Waxhaw
Farms
In April, there's the Waxhaw Town & Country Run, a 5-kilometer and one mile fun run and fitness walk. If you'd rather watch thoroughbreds do the racing, head to nearby Mineral Springs where the Queen's Cup Steeplechase is also held every April. You might even get to see some of the pupils from Waxhaw farms performing in other events.
In May, the town holds an Antique and Craft Show, an outdoor event that features booths along Main Street's green. There are quite a few great finds here, so keep your eyes peeled or your neighbor's going to beat you to it.
Waxhaw's 4 th of July Parade is always a memorable event. Participants always pull out all the stops and the floats can be extravagantly styled.
The next big event is the Waxhaw Scottish Games, which has been going on for almost three decades. A great many of Waxhaw's first settlers were Scots-Irish and their descendants still live in the district today. Spearheaded by the Scottish Society of the Waxhaws and held every October, this festival is an exuberant mélange of traditional Scottish games, music and dancing, a celebration of the Scots heritage of a significant number of families who still own real estate in Waxhaw.
